Krea AI changed more in the last two months than most AI image tools change in a year: Krea 3 became its default model on October 16, an AI agent now runs on every plan, and the pricing page has five tiers instead of three. I went through every plan, release note and model to answer the questions people search for: is Krea AI free, what do the paid plans really buy, and is Pro worth it?

Short answer

Krea is worth it if you want 60+ image and video models, a realtime canvas and LoRA training in one place. The free plan is generous for images, about 50 Krea 2 Turbo images a day, but runs no video. Pro at $35 a month ($21 billed yearly) is the plan most creators need, because Basic limits video to selected models.

🔍 How I researched this Krea AI review

I haven't paid for Krea, so this review is research, not a hands-on test. I read Krea's pricing page and release notes on October 17, compared the plan cards line by line, and worked out what each plan's compute units buy from Krea's own example counts. Where Krea's pages contradict each other, I say so.

Is Krea AI worth it? My 8/10 verdict

Short answer: Yes, for creators who want many top image and video models, realtime sketching and custom style training under one bill. It's weaker if you only need one model, want free video, or need precise editing in a traditional editor. On paper Pro is the best value, and yearly billing cuts every paid plan by about 40%.

What is Krea AI?

Short answer: Krea is a web platform for creating images and video with AI. It hosts more than 60 models, including its own Krea 2 and Krea 3 and third-party ones like Nano Banana 2, Seedance, Kling, Wan and Flux, and adds its own tools: a realtime canvas, Nodes workflows, an AI agent, LoRA training and upscaling up to 22K.

🎨 Realtime canvas

The tool that made Krea AI known: draw shapes or type, and the image updates live.

🧩 Nodes

An infinite canvas for chaining steps into a workflow, with the compute cost shown before you run.

🤖 Krea Agent

Describe what you want in plain words; available on every plan since September.

🔁 Elements

Save characters and objects to reuse across images, so the same face appears every time.

Krea also released the weights of Krea 2 in June under a community license, and a Krea plugin now works inside ChatGPT. For a wider view of image tools, my free AI image generator guide compares Krea's free plan with nine others.

What's new in Krea AI?

Short answer: The biggest change is Krea 3, which opened in beta on October 15 and became Krea's default image model the next day. It's built for editing: give it a photo and an instruction, and it changes one area while keeping the rest, at 2K and up to 4K. Krea says a 2K edit takes under eight seconds.

Krea's quality claims for Krea 3 come from its own benchmarks against Nano Banana Pro and GPT Image 2.5; independent tests were still thin at launch. Changes come from Krea's release notes.

Is Krea AI free? What 100 daily units buy

Short answer: Yes. Krea's free plan gives 100 compute units a day that refill daily. Using Krea's own example counts, that's about 50 Krea 2 Turbo images or two Nano Banana 2 images a day. The free plan lists zero video slots, so it can't run video, and upscaling stops at 2K.
What you makeUnits each (approx.)On 100 free daily units
Krea 2 Turbo image~2~50
Nano Banana 2 image (1K)~45~2
Seedance 2.0 video (4s, 480p)~250None: no video slots on Free

The unit costs are my math from Krea's plan table: Basic's 5,000 units are listed as about 2,500 Krea 2 Turbo images, 112 Nano Banana 2 images or 20 Seedance videos. Free also caps LoRA training at 50 images and runs one image at a time.

One contradiction to know: Krea's free plan card lists a commercial license, but its FAQ names only paid plans. For client work, use a paid plan until Krea clears that up.

Krea's free plan is one of the best for images and useless for video. Judge it on images, then decide if video is worth $35 a month.

Krea AI pricing: every plan compared

Short answer: Krea has five plans: Free, Basic at $9 a month, Pro at $35, Max at $105 and Business at $200. Yearly billing saves about 40%: Basic drops to $5.25, Pro to $21 and Max to $63 a month. Every paid plan includes a commercial license and upscaling up to 22K.

Free$0–100 a dayNone50 images1 image
Basic$9$5.255,000Selected models50 images4 images, 2 videos

Max$105$6360,000All models2,000 imagesUnlimited images, 8 videos
Business$200$16080,000All models2,000 imagesUnlimited

Prices are from Krea's pricing page on October 17, in USD before tax. The page shows two prices per plan without labeling them; the higher is monthly and the lower is yearly, matching its "save 40% yearly" banner. The old $24 Pro price many reviews still quote is gone.

Krea AI Pro · every model, 20,000 units a month and up to 22K upscaling; $21 a month on yearly billing.

How much can you make on each Krea AI plan?

Short answer: On Krea's own example counts, Basic makes about 2,500 Krea 2 Turbo images or 20 Seedance videos a month, Pro about 10,000 images or 83 videos, and Max about 30,000 images or 250 videos. Video eats units fastest: one short Seedance clip costs about as much as 125 Krea 2 Turbo images.

Enter what you'd make in a typical month. The calculator adds up the units and picks the cheapest Krea plan that covers it. It runs in your browser and stores nothing.

Billing

Unit costs are estimates from Krea's plan table, and resolution, length and model change them. Since September Krea also shows a compute estimate before each job, so check it on anything big.

How does the Krea AI LoRA trainer work?

Short answer: A LoRA teaches a model your own style, product or character from example images. In Krea you upload a set of images, train, then use the result as a style in new generations. Free, Basic and Pro train on up to 50 images; Max and Business allow 2,000. Krea 3 adds LoRA fine-tuning for edits too.
Krea AI LoRA trainer for consistent brand and character style
  1. 1

    Collect clean examples

Use consistent, well-lit images of one subject or style; variety in angle, not in style.

  2. 2

    Upload and train

Krea's trainer runs in the browser; Free to Pro accept up to 50 images per LoRA.

  3. 3

    Prompt with your LoRA

Select it like a style and describe the new scene; it carries the look.

  4. 4

    Save characters as Elements

For people and products, Elements keeps the same face or object across images.

For brand work, a LoRA plus Elements is the most useful thing Krea does that single-model tools don't. My guide to Midjourney character consistency shows how the same problem looks in Midjourney.

Krea AI vs Midjourney, Higgsfield and Leonardo

Short answer: Krea is the most flexible of the four: many models, a realtime canvas and LoRA training. Midjourney still has the most distinctive single-model style. Higgsfield is the video-first rival, with Kling and Seedance plus Cinema Studio camera control. Leonardo sits in between, with its own models and a daily free allowance.

Krea AI alternatives worth trying

Short answer: If Krea's units run out too fast or you mainly want video, three alternatives fit different needs: ImagineArt for a second free daily pool of image credits, Higgsfield for cinematic video with camera control, and Kling for cheaper Kling-only video with daily free credits.
Best free image credits

ImagineArt

100 free credits a day · web, iOS and Android

A second daily pool with a different set of models, including Flux Dev on the free plan. Free images go to a public gallery by default, and the free-tier license is unclear, so keep client work on paid plans.

Best for cinematic video

Higgsfield AI

Kling 3.0, Seedance and Cinema Studio in one plan

If video is why you'd pay for Krea Pro, compare Higgsfield Plus: every model, Cinema Studio camera moves and about 80 Seedance videos a month on its own estimate. Its free plan is only a trial.

Cheapest video

Kling

Kling 3.0 from $10 a month · daily free credits

Kling direct is the low-cost route if Kling is the only video model you need, and its free daily credits cover short watermarked clips to test with.

Krea AI limitations to know

💸 Video burns units

One short Seedance clip costs about as much as 125 Krea 2 Turbo images.

🎬 No free video

The free plan lists zero video slots.

🧭 A lot to learn

60+ models, Nodes, Agent and Elements take time to understand.

📄 Mixed license signals

The free plan card and the FAQ disagree on commercial use.

🔄 Fast-changing

Models are added and retired often; Veo 2 and 3 left in August.

📊 Unverified claims

Krea 3's quality claims are Krea's own benchmarks so far.

Which Krea AI plan should you buy?

Short answer: Stay on Free if you only make images. Basic ($5.25 yearly) suits light image work and occasional video on selected models. Pro ($21 yearly) is the plan for most creators, with every video model. Max is for heavy video or big LoRA training sets, and Business for teams.

Free · $0

About 50 Krea 2 Turbo images a day; no video.

Basic · $9 ($5.25 yearly)

5,000 units; selected video models.

Pro · $35 ($21 yearly)

My pick: 20,000 units, every model, 4 videos at once.

Max · $105 ($63 yearly)

60,000 units and 2,000-image LoRA training.

My verdict on Krea AI

Krea earns its 8/10 as the most flexible creative studio for people who like to experiment: dozens of models, a realtime canvas and your own trained styles under one bill. Start free, judge the images, and only pay when you need video or more volume.

If you do pay, take Pro on yearly billing. If video is the main reason, compare Higgsfield first, because video is where Krea's units disappear.

Krea AI: FAQ

Is Krea AI free?

+

Yes. The free plan gives 100 compute units a day that refill daily, about 50 Krea 2 Turbo images on Krea's own example counts. It lists no video slots, caps upscaling at 2K and LoRA training at 50 images, and runs one image at a time.

How much does Krea AI cost?

+

Basic is $9 a month, Pro $35, Max $105 and Business $200. Yearly billing saves about 40%, bringing Basic to $5.25, Pro to $21 and Max to $63 a month. Prices are in USD before tax.

Is Krea AI Pro worth it?

+

For most creators, yes: Pro unlocks every video model, 20,000 units a month and up to 22K upscaling. Basic limits video to selected models, which pushes anyone serious about video to Pro. Take it on yearly billing at $21 a month.

What is Krea 3?

+

Krea 3 is Krea's newest image model, made the default on October 16. It's built for editing: you give it a photo and an instruction, and it changes one area while keeping the rest, at 2K and up to 4K. Krea reports 2K edits in under eight seconds.

Can I use Krea AI images commercially?

+

Paid plans include a commercial license. The free plan card also lists one, but Krea's FAQ names only paid plans, so use a paid plan for client or business work until Krea clarifies it.

Does Krea AI do video?

+

Yes, on paid plans. Krea hosts video models including Seedance, Kling, Wan, Veo 3.1 and FLUX 3 Video. Basic runs selected video models, Pro and above run all of them, and the free plan lists no video slots.

Is Krea AI better than Midjourney?

+

It depends on what you want. Krea AI is more flexible, with many models, a realtime canvas and LoRA training, plus a free plan. Midjourney has a more distinctive single style and no free plan. Pick Krea to experiment, Midjourney for one signature look.
