    How it works

How the AI Subscription Cost Calculator Works

I built it because AI bills tend to grow one $20 plan at a time. The AI subscription cost calculator adds up what you pay, then checks each subscription against the tasks you use AI for.

    STEP 01

    Your tools

Tick the subscriptions you pay for and choose your plan. Yearly plans are converted to a monthly equivalent.

    STEP 02

    Your tasks

Pick what you use AI for and mark each task as a main, regular or occasional use.

    STEP 03

    Your usage

Say how often you use your paid tools and what matters most, such as lowest cost or best quality.

    STEP 04

    Your results

Spending, overlap, up to four saving options, a suggested stack and the reason behind each one.

    Transparent rules

    The rules behind each suggestion

Every suggestion comes from written rules, not an AI model, so the same answers always give the same result. Each tool is tagged with the tasks it is built for and the tasks it handles as a side feature.

ChatGPT can make images, for example, but image generation is a side feature next to a dedicated tool like Midjourney.

If no change keeps all your tasks covered, the calculator tells you to keep your current tools.

    • OverlapFlagged only when two paid tools are both built for a task you picked. Pairs that do different jobs, like Otter and Descript, are marked as complementary.
    • Dropping a toolSuggested only when every task it covers for you is still covered by a tool you keep.
    • Side featuresCount only for occasional tasks by default. Lowest cost or One tool that does everything make them count more; Best quality means only purpose-built tools count.
    • Cheaper tiersSuggested when you use AI once a week or less and haven't asked for professional features or best quality.
    • Free plansSuggested only when the tool has one, and either you use AI occasionally, or the tool covers no task you marked as a main use and you use AI weekly or less (or picked a low-cost priority and don't use it daily).
    Spot the overlap

How to Find Overlapping AI Tools

Overlap rarely looks like two identical apps, which is why the AI subscription cost calculator checks tasks rather than tool names. It builds up when a general assistant adds a feature that used to need a separate subscription.

    Start with your general assistant

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Grok all handle writing, brainstorming and research. If you pay for two, check which one you open first each day. That habit is a better guide than any feature list.

    Check what the extras include

Some plans bundle more than AI chat. Google AI plans include cloud storage and Microsoft 365 Premium includes the Office apps. Confirm you aren't also cancelling storage or software you use.

    Separate the specialists

Midjourney, ElevenLabs, Descript or Cursor go deeper than a side feature. If one of those tasks is a main part of your work, the specialist usually earns its place.

    Three patterns to look for

    Likely overlap

Two general assistants for the same writing and research, or two automation platforms running similar workflows.

    Usually complementary

An image generator plus a design tool, or a meeting-notes app plus a video editor.

    Worth a second look

A paid tool that matches none of the tasks you picked. It may be a forgotten renewal.

    Spend less

How to Reduce Your AI Subscription Costs

Cutting a tool is only one lever. Plan size and billing often save as much, with less disruption to how you work.

    01

Match the plan to your usage

Top tiers of ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity are built for daily power users. A few times a week, the standard plan is usually enough.

    02

    Pay yearly for daily tools

Most yearly plans cost less over twelve months. Keep tools you are still testing on monthly billing.

    03

Move light tasks to free plans

Many tools here have a free plan that covers occasional use. You can upgrade again the month you need more.

    04

    Review renewals each quarter

Run the AI subscription cost calculator again when a renewal email arrives, and cancel trials before they convert.

The cheapest stack is not always the right one: keep the tool that does your main task best.

    FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers about prices, privacy and how the suggestions are made.

Is the AI subscription cost calculator free to use?

Yes. The AI subscription cost calculator has no account, no email form and no paywall. You get the full results, including the saving options and the suggested stack, the first time you run it.

Do you store the tools and answers I enter?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing you select is sent to a server or saved. Close the tab and your answers are gone, which is also why there is a Start over button rather than a saved profile.

Where do the prices come from, and how current are they?

Each price comes from the tool's public pricing page in US dollars, and the date of the last check is shown under the calculator. Prices change often and can differ by country, tax and promotion, so treat the totals as a close estimate and confirm on the vendor's page before you switch plans.

Why does the calculator sometimes tell me to keep everything?

Because that is sometimes the right answer. It only suggests dropping a tool when every task you use it for is still covered by something you keep. If two tools do different jobs, or you need the best quality for a main task, it says keeping both may make sense.

Should I pay for AI tools monthly or yearly?

Yearly billing is usually cheaper, often by 15% or more, but you pay upfront and most plans don't refund early cancellations. It makes sense for a tool you use most days. For anything you are still testing, stay monthly until you know it earns its place.

Can one AI assistant replace ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity?

For many people, yes, for everyday writing, brainstorming and research. Where it falls short is specialist work: cited research, long documents or heavy coding can still justify a second tool. Pick One tool that does everything in step 3 and the calculator will lean toward consolidation.

Are the Learn more links affiliate links?

Some are. When AIDigitalSpace has an affiliate partnership the button uses it and is labelled as an affiliate link, and when there isn't one it goes to the official site. The recommendations are produced by the same rules either way.
