The best AI smart ovens can spot a chicken through a camera, stop a roast at the exact core temperature, or cook a meal from a barcode. But on September 22 the most famous one, the June Oven, lost its app and cloud for good, and most buying guides still recommend it. So I rebuilt this guide around one question: what does each oven still do if the company switches off its servers?

โšก Short answer: The Typhur Sync Oven is the best AI smart oven for most kitchens: a built-in wireless probe that stops cooking at your target doneness, AI recipes in the app, and a $299.99 list price. Pick the Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro for guided recipes, the Anova Precision Oven 2.0 for true camera food recognition, and the NuWave Bravo XL if you want zero cloud dependence.

๐Ÿ”
How I researched thisI haven't cooked in these ovens myself, so nothing here is labeled "tested". On October 8, 2026 I checked each maker's product page, US list prices, retailer listings and reporting on the June shutdown. The server-death grades and the 3-year cost table are my own analysis of those sources, and I explain the method next to each one.
๐Ÿ†• What changed in this update (October 8, 2026)
  • Removed the June Oven as a pick: Weber shut down its app and cloud on September 22.
  • Added the Typhur Sync Oven, Anova Precision Oven 2.0 and Tovala Smart Oven Pro.
  • Corrected wall-oven prices: Samsung and GE camera models list around $3,750โ€“$3,800.
  • New server-death scorecard, 3-year cost table and a one-tap oven picker.

What is an AI smart oven, and what isn't?

Short answer: An AI smart oven makes a cooking decision for you, instead of only taking orders from an app. In practice it does one of three things: recognizes food through an internal camera, stops cooking from probe or sensor readings, or loads a full cooking program from a barcode or recipe. Wi-Fi alone doesn't qualify.

Plenty of ovens marketed as AI smart ovens are a toaster oven with an app. That's useful, since preheating from the sofa is nice, but nothing in the oven is deciding anything. The interesting AI smart ovens in 2026 split into three groups, and the group tells you more than the spec sheet.

The three kinds of AI smart ovens

  • Camera ovens โ†’ look at the food, name it and suggest a program. Anova Precision Oven 2.0, GE Profile CookCam, Samsung Bespoke AI Pro Cooking Camera.
  • Probe-driven ovens โ†’ read the core temperature and stop at your doneness. Typhur Sync Oven, CHEF iQ MiniOven with iQ Sense, NuWave Bravo XL.
  • Program ovens โ†’ run a multi-stage recipe or a scanned barcode. Breville Joule Autopilot and Tovala scan-to-cook.

Here's the part most guides skip: a probe beats a camera for doneness. A camera can tell you a chicken is golden, but only a thermometer knows the middle has reached a safe temperature. That's why my top pick among AI smart ovens is a probe oven, not a camera oven.

Core distinction: the camera is the headline, the probe does the work. Judge AI smart ovens by what they decide on their own, and where that decision runs.

What happened to the June Oven?

Short answer: Weber, which bought June in 2021 and later stopped making the ovens, switched off the June app and cloud services on September 22. Owners lost remote control, the live camera view, software updates, parts and support. The oven still heats from its touchscreen. Don't buy one, new or used.

June Oven on a countertop, once the best known of the AI smart ovens, now without app or cloud support
โŒ Former #1 pick: June OvenIt was the first oven to recognize food with a camera, and it was this guide's top pick. Reports disagree on whether on-device food ID still works after the shutdown; everything that needed Weber's servers is gone. If you see one "like new" on a marketplace, skip it.

The lesson matters more than the oven. A June cost about $1,500 at launch, and its smartest features lived on servers its owner didn't control. Yanko Design's report points out that the same camera trick now ships in sub-$100 air fryers. The technology got cheaper. The risk of buying into a single company's cloud didn't.

That is why every pick below gets a server-death grade: what you keep if the maker pulls the plug. It's the one test I couldn't find in any other guide to AI smart ovens.

The 8 best AI smart ovens

Six countertop AI smart ovens first, then two built-in wall ovens for kitchen renovations. Prices are US list prices I checked on October 8, 2026; most of these AI smart ovens sell below list during sales, so each card links to today's price.

1. Typhur Sync Oven ๐Ÿ† Best overall

โœ“ 5-sensor wireless probeโœ“ ยฑ0.5ยฐF, NIST-verifiedโœ“ AI recipes from a photo

Most AI smart ovens bolt the clever part onto an app. Typhur put it in the oven: a 5-sensor wireless probe docks and charges magnetically on the oven, and you set the doneness on the control panel. When the core hits your number, the oven stops. No phone, no account, no guessing.

The app adds the AI layer: snap a photo of your ingredients or type a dish, and Typhur AI writes a recipe and sends it to the oven. It lists at $299.99 and dropped to $199 for Prime members in June. With 12 functions, a 27-quart cavity and 85โ€“450ยฐF, it does everything the older AI smart ovens in this guide did for a third of the price.

๐Ÿ“ฆ What you getThe oven, wireless probe, air-fry basket, wire rack, roasting pan and crumb tray. The app is free; there's no subscription.
๐Ÿ‘ Pros
  • Doneness works without the app
  • Best value of the probe ovens
  • No subscription at all
๐Ÿ‘Ž Cons
  • No camera
  • Newer brand than Breville
  • Large footprint
Best for: anyone who cooks meat and wants it right every time, without paying a camera premium.

2. Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro ๐Ÿ“ฑ Best guided cooking

Breville's top countertop oven, run by multi-stage Autopilot recipes

Check price โ†’
Breville Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro, one of the best AI smart ovens for guided recipes
โœ“ Joule Autopilotโœ“ 400+ guided recipesโœ“ Alexa and Google

The Joule is the most polished of the app-driven AI smart ovens. Its Autopilot runs a recipe end to end, switching functions, temperatures and times on its own, while the Breville+ app walks you through each step with video. Breville counts 400+ guided recipes from names like America's Test Kitchen and Serious Eats.

Under it sits the Element iQ system: six quartz elements and PID temperature control. You get 13 presets on the oven plus three app-only modes. It lists at $499.95 on Breville's site and works with Alexa and Google Assistant. There's no camera and no built-in probe.

๐Ÿ“ฆ What you getThe oven, pizza pan, two wire racks, broiling rack, roasting pan and an air-fry/dehydrate basket. The Breville+ app is a free download.
๐Ÿ‘ Pros
  • Best app and recipes here
  • All 13 presets work without it
  • Excellent build quality
๐Ÿ‘Ž Cons
  • No probe or camera
  • $499.95 is a lot for a countertop oven
  • Big on the counter
Best for: cooks who like recipes, and want the oven to handle the timing between steps.

3. Anova Precision Oven 2.0 ๐Ÿ“ท Best camera AI

A combi-steam countertop oven that recognizes food through its camera

Anova Precision Oven 2.0 with camera and steam, the camera pick among AI smart ovens
โœ“ Camera food recognitionโœ“ Steam + probeโš  Paid plan for Smart Detect

If you want the June experience in 2026, this is it. The camera snaps your food once the door closes and suggests a cook, and steam plus a food probe give you restaurant-style control over moisture. It's the most capable of the countertop AI smart ovens, and the most expensive: $1,299 list on Anova's site, with sales seen at $999.

The catch is that Smart Detect, in-app recipes and remote monitoring sit behind an Anova Oven subscription, priced at $1.99 a month or $9.99 a year at launch. It also ships to the UK at ยฃ999. Bread bakers rate the steam highly; some owners report patchy app connectivity.

๐Ÿ’ก No affiliate link: this one goes straight to Anova's store.

๐Ÿ“ฆ What you getThe oven, a food probe, a water tank for steam and the Anova Oven app. Camera recognition and recipes need the subscription.
๐Ÿ‘ Pros
  • Real camera recognition
  • Steam changes bread and roasts
  • Probe included
๐Ÿ‘Ž Cons
  • The best AI is paywalled
  • Most expensive countertop pick
  • App reviews are mixed
Best for: serious home cooks and bakers who want steam and don't mind a small yearly fee.

4. Tovala Smart Oven Pro ๐Ÿงพ Best scan-to-cook

Scan a barcode, press start, dinner in about 20 minutes

Check price โ†’
Tovala Smart Oven Pro scanning a meal barcode, one of the AI smart ovens built around scan-to-cook
โœ“ Barcode scan-to-cookโœ“ Steam, air fry, bakeโš  Wi-Fi needed to scan

Tovala is the least-effort way to use AI smart ovens. Scan the barcode on a Tovala meal, or on one of hundreds of supermarket products, and the oven loads a multi-stage program that mixes steam, bake and broil. You don't pick a temperature at all.

The Pro lists at $349 and is often far cheaper bundled with a meal plan. Meals are optional, but they're the reason most people buy it. It's sold in the US only, and scan-to-cook stops working without Wi-Fi, which matters on the server-death test.

๐Ÿ’ก Want to see what a meal plan adds up to? My AI subscription cost calculator totals every recurring plan.

๐Ÿ“ฆ What you getThe oven, six modes (steam, toast, air fry, bake, broil, reheat), the Tovala app and access to scan-to-cook for grocery items.
๐Ÿ‘ Pros
  • Zero cooking decisions
  • Steam keeps reheated food moist
  • Low entry price with meals
๐Ÿ‘Ž Cons
  • Scanning needs the cloud
  • Best value tied to meal plans
  • US only
Best for: busy households that want a hot dinner without planning one.

5. CHEF iQ MiniOven ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Best probe ecosystem

An 11-in-1 countertop oven that pairs with the iQ Sense thermometer

Check price โ†’
CHEF iQ MiniOven countertop air fryer oven, one of the AI smart ovens that pairs with a smart probe
โœ“ Pairs with iQ Sense probeโœ“ 25 qt, fits 13" pizzaโš  List $599, often ~$300

Among the probe-based AI smart ovens, the MiniOven's trick is teamwork: pair it with the iQ Sense thermometer and the oven adjusts itself on the fly to hit the target inside the food. A 3,200 RPM fan, 500ยฐF top heat and 11 functions make it a strong oven even without the probe.

Pricing is messy. It lists at $599, but Tom's Guide tracked it at $379 on Prime Day and Costco sold it with a probe for $299.99. One thing to know before you buy: CHEF iQ requires linking the oven to an account on first use, so setup depends on its servers.

๐Ÿ“ฆ What you getThe oven, wire rack, ceramic PFAS-free pan, air-fry basket, egg tray, drip tray and a three-year warranty. The probe is usually extra.
๐Ÿ‘ Pros
  • Probe-driven cooking
  • Large 25-quart cavity
  • Three-year warranty
๐Ÿ‘Ž Cons
  • Account needed at setup
  • List price is unrealistic
  • Probe sold separately
Best for: buyers who already own CHEF iQ gear, or who find it bundled with a probe on sale.

6. NuWave Bravo XL ๐Ÿ’ฐ Best budget

A 30-quart air fryer oven with a built-in temperature probe and no cloud

Check price โ†’
NuWave Bravo XL with its integrated probe, the budget choice among AI smart ovens
โœ“ Integrated probeโœ“ 50โ€“500ยฐF in 5ยฐF stepsโœ“ Works fully offline

The Bravo XL is the honest budget answer to AI smart ovens. There's no app, no account and no Wi-Fi: an integrated temperature probe watches the food and the oven finishes on its own. Nothing about it depends on a server, which is why it scores best on my server-death test.

It lists at $219.99 and dropped to $129.99 during Prime Day. The 30-quart cavity is the largest here, and you set the top-and-bottom heater balance yourself, which pizza fans love.

๐Ÿ“ฆ What you getThe oven, probe, grill/griddle plate, air-fry basket, racks and pans. No app or subscription exists, so there's nothing to lose.
๐Ÿ‘ Pros
  • Cheapest pick here
  • Biggest cavity
  • Can't be bricked by a shutdown
๐Ÿ‘Ž Cons
  • No remote alerts
  • Plain interface
  • Lighter build than Breville
Best for: families on a budget, and anyone who never wants their oven to need an update.

7. GE Profile CookCam (PTS9000SZSS) ๐Ÿ—๏ธ Best built-in

A 30-inch wall oven with an in-oven camera and no-preheat air fry

Check price โ†’
GE Profile CookCam wall oven with an in-oven camera, the built-in pick among AI smart ovens
โœ“ CookCam with AIโœ“ No-preheat air fryโš  Install required

Renovating? Among built-in AI smart ovens, GE's CookCam with AI recommends a precision cooking mode from what it sees, then tunes temperature and fan speed. You can stream the oven to your phone through the SmartHQ app, and GE ships new modes as software updates.

The single wall oven lists at $3,799; retailers had it near $2,700 this month. GE doesn't say whether recognition runs on the oven or in the cloud, so I graded it on what I could confirm: the oven itself works normally without the app.

๐Ÿ“ฆ What you getA 5.0 cu. ft. convection wall oven with camera, steam-clean option and Wi-Fi. Installation is extra and usually needs a pro.
๐Ÿ‘ Pros
  • Camera built into a full-size oven
  • Software updates add modes
  • Big-brand service network
๐Ÿ‘Ž Cons
  • $3,799 list plus installation
  • Live view needs the app
  • Recognition list is limited
Best for: kitchen renovations where you want the camera in your main oven.

8. Samsung Bespoke AI Pro Cooking Camera ๐Ÿ  Best for SmartThings

A 30-inch wall oven with a camera, Air Sous Vide and steam

Check price โ†’
Samsung Bespoke wall oven with AI Pro Cooking Camera, one of the built-in AI smart ovens for SmartThings homes
โœ“ AI Pro Cooking Cameraโœ“ Air Sous Vide + steamโš  From ~$2,800 street

Of the wall-mounted AI smart ovens, Samsung's camera recognizes popular ingredients and suggests modes, streams to your phone and even makes time-lapse videos for social media. Add Air Sous Vide, Steam Cook and Air Fry, and it's the most feature-packed of the built-in AI smart ovens.

The stainless single wall oven (NV51CG700SSR) lists at $3,749 and sells around $2,800โ€“$2,900. Earlier versions of this guide said $1,299, which was wrong. It earns its place if your home already runs on SmartThings.

๐Ÿ’ก KitchenAid's new Smart Wall Oven with Intelligent Cooking Camera won Best of Show at KBIS 2026, and its food recognition works from the oven's own screen without the app, per KitchenAid's camera page. I'll add it once US pricing is clear.

๐Ÿ“ฆ What you getA 5.1 cu. ft. single wall oven with camera, steam tray and SmartThings support. Installation is extra.
๐Ÿ‘ Pros
  • Most features of the wall ovens
  • Deep SmartThings integration
  • Choice of glass finishes
๐Ÿ‘Ž Cons
  • Pricey, plus installation
  • Best inside Samsung's ecosystem
  • Camera needs Wi-Fi to stream
Best for: SmartThings homes that want one camera oven in a full kitchen remodel.

AI smart ovens compared side by side

The column that matters most is the second one. AI smart ovens that decide from a probe get doneness right; ovens that decide from a camera get the program right. The best kitchens use both.

Outside the US, the choice of AI smart ovens narrows: Anova ships to the UK at ยฃ999, while Tovala is US-only and the GE and Samsung models are North American versions. In the EU and UK, check local camera-oven models instead, since wall-oven lineups differ by region.

The server-death test: which ovens still work?

Short answer: Of all the AI smart ovens here, NuWave Bravo XL and Typhur Sync Oven lose almost nothing if their makers stop supporting them, because their smart part runs inside the oven. Anova and Tovala lose the most, since their camera and scan features depend on the cloud or a subscription. The June Oven is the cautionary tale.

Here's how I graded the AI smart ovens below. One question: how much of the reason you paid for survives without the company's servers? An A means the clever part runs locally. An F means the feature you bought is already gone. Where a maker doesn't document something, I say so instead of guessing.

Three questions to ask before buying AI smart ovens

  • Does the main feature work from the oven's own screen? KitchenAid's 2026 camera ovens do; many don't say.
  • Is the AI behind a subscription? If yes, add it to the price for as long as you plan to own the oven.
  • Who owns the brand? June died after an acquisition. A company that sells ovens as its core business is a safer bet than one that doesn't.

Core distinction: buy the oven, not the cloud. The more of its intelligence lives inside the box, the longer your AI smart oven stays smart.

What do AI smart ovens cost over 3 years?

Short answer: AI smart ovens run from $219.99 to $3,799 at list price. Only the Anova adds a required fee for its camera AI, which puts it at $1,328.97 over three years at launch pricing. Tovala meals are optional and excluded. Sale prices often cut the countertop models by a third.

I built this table from the list prices above plus three years of any subscription needed for the AI features in each card. Hardware is counted once. The "seen on sale" column is the lowest price I found reported in the past few months, so treat it as a target, not a promise.

AI smart ovenUS listSubscription for the AI3-year totalSeen on sale
NuWave Bravo XL$219.99None$219.99$129.99

Samsung Bespoke AI Camera$3,749None$3,749 + install~$2,800
GE Profile CookCam$3,799None$3,799 + install~$2,700

Two things jump out about AI smart ovens pricing. First, the cheapest AI smart ovens also score best on the server-death test, so saving money doesn't mean giving up longevity. Second, the subscription is small on paper; the real cost of Tovala is the meals, and the real cost of a wall oven is the installation.

If Tovala meals or the Anova plan join the streaming and AI plans you already pay for, my free subscription cost calculator shows what all of them add up to in a year.

Which AI smart oven should you buy?

Short answer: Match AI smart ovens to the job you need done. Perfect meat: Typhur Sync Oven. Guided recipes: Breville Joule. Camera recognition and steam: Anova Precision Oven 2.0. Zero-effort dinners: Tovala. Lowest price and no cloud: NuWave Bravo XL. Remodeling the kitchen: GE Profile CookCam or Samsung Bespoke.

โฑ๏ธ The 10-second oven pickerWhat should your oven do for you?

Already own a good oven? You may not need one of these AI smart ovens at all. A wireless probe in your current oven delivers most of the doneness benefit for under $100, and my AI kitchen helpers guide compares thermometers, cookers and other gear that pair with any oven.

AI smart ovens I'd skip right now

โŒ June Oven, new or usedApp, cloud, parts and support ended September 22. The hardware outlived its software.
โŒ Any oven whose AI needs an account you can't skipIf the core cooking feature won't run without signing in, a shutdown can strand you after a factory reset.
โŒ "AI" ovens with only Wi-FiRemote preheat is handy, but if nothing decides anything, don't pay an AI premium for it.

Are oven cameras a privacy risk?

Short answer: The risk is modest but real. A camera pointed into an oven mostly sees food, yet the app also logs when you cook, which reveals when you're home. Put connected AI smart ovens on a guest Wi-Fi network, turn on two-factor sign-in, and switch off cloud features you don't use.

Usage logs are the quiet issue with AI smart ovens, as with any connected appliance: cook times map your daily routine. The FTC's guidance on connected devices is a good checklist for what a maker should be doing to secure them, and it doubles as a list of questions to ask before you buy.

Four settings worth changing on day one

  • Use a guest or IoT network so the oven can't see your laptop and phones.
  • Turn on two-factor sign-in for the oven's app account.
  • Disable time-lapse and video sharing on camera models if you never use them.
  • Opt out of data sharing for research or marketing where the app allows it.

For the broader picture, my guides on AI home devices to disable for privacy and turning off AI features apply to connected kitchens too. If you already run a hub, my smart home hub guide shows which ecosystems these ovens join.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions โ€” AI Smart Ovens

What is the best AI smart oven right now?

+

For most kitchens, the Typhur Sync Oven: its built-in wireless probe stops cooking at your chosen doneness, the app adds AI recipes, and it lists at $299.99 with no subscription. The Breville Joule is the best for guided recipes, and the Anova Precision Oven 2.0 is the best camera oven.

What is an AI smart oven?

+

An AI smart oven makes cooking decisions on its own, rather than only following app commands. It recognizes food with a camera, stops cooking from probe readings, or runs a full program from a barcode or recipe. An oven with just Wi-Fi and remote preheat is smart, not AI.

What happened to the June Oven?

+

Weber bought June in 2021, later stopped making the ovens, and switched off the June app and cloud services on September 22. Owners lost remote control, live camera viewing, updates, parts and support. The oven still heats from its touchscreen, but I don't recommend buying one.

Do AI smart ovens need Wi-Fi to work?

+

All AI smart ovens here cook without Wi-Fi, but you lose different things. The NuWave Bravo XL and the Typhur probe work fully offline. Tovala's scan-to-cook and Anova's camera recognition need the cloud, and camera wall ovens need Wi-Fi to stream video to your phone.

Which AI smart ovens have a camera?

+

Among countertop AI smart ovens, the Anova Precision Oven 2.0 recognizes food through its camera. Built-in options include the GE Profile CookCam, Samsung Bespoke with AI Pro Cooking Camera and KitchenAid's new Intelligent Cooking Camera wall ovens. The June Oven had one, but its cloud features are gone.

Do any AI smart ovens need a subscription?

+

Only one pick here needs one for its AI. Anova's Smart Detect camera recognition and in-app recipes require the Anova Oven subscription, priced at $1.99 a month or $9.99 a year at launch. Tovala meals are optional, and Typhur, Breville, CHEF iQ, NuWave, GE and Samsung have no fee.

Is an AI smart oven better than an air fryer?

+

An AI smart oven replaces an air fryer and a toaster oven at once, and fits a 13-inch pizza or a whole chicken. A basket air fryer is cheaper, smaller and faster for fries. If counter space allows only one appliance, an air fryer oven like the Typhur Sync is the more flexible choice.

Are AI smart ovens worth the money?

+

AI smart ovens are worth it if you cook several times a week and often over- or undercook meat; a probe-driven model fixes that for about $200โ€“$300. No, if you want a camera for its own sake, since camera AI costs far more and can disappear if the maker stops supporting it.
