Copy.ai vs Writesonic used to be an easy call: Copy.ai for ads, Writesonic for blog posts. That comparison no longer exists. Copy.ai now sells AI workflows to sales teams, and Writesonic sells AI search visibility from $79 a month. Most guides still quote a free unlimited plan and a $16 writer that are gone, so I rebuilt this one around what each tool is today and who should still pay for it.
โก Short answer: Pick Writesonic if you want to see whether ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews mention your brand, and fix it with AI articles and site audits. Pick Copy.ai if a sales or marketing team needs shared AI chat and automated workflows: its Chat plan gives 5 seats for $24 a month billed yearly. If you only want an AI writer for blog posts, neither is the cheapest fit anymore.
๐ What changed in this update (October 11, 2026)
- Replaced every old price: no unlimited free Copy.ai plan, no $16 Writesonic plan.
- Added Copy.ai's sale to Fullcast and Writesonic's move to AI search visibility.
- Removed the Surfer SEO integration claim, which no current plan lists.
- New 12-month cost bars, a 30-second finder and cheaper picks for bloggers.
- Added a screenshot from my own visibility scan.

What happened to Copy.ai and Writesonic?
Short answer: Both left the "AI writer" market. Fullcast, a revenue-operations company, bought Copy.ai in October 2025 and is folding it into a sales platform called Fullcast Propel. Writesonic rebuilt itself as an AI search visibility platform that tracks whether AI answers mention your brand, with article writing as one part of the bundle.
The reason is the same for both. Once ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini could write a decent ad or blog draft for $20 a month, a tool that only wrote was hard to sell. So each company moved to a job the chatbots don't do on their own.
Copy.ai went after sales and marketing operations: shared prompts, brand voice, a company knowledge base called Infobase, and workflows that research leads or enrich a CRM. The other went after GEO, short for generative engine optimization, which means getting your brand cited inside ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI answers.
Key idea: stop asking which one writes better. Ask whether you need sales workflows, AI visibility data, or neither.

Writesonic charges $79, $199 and $399 a month billed yearly for Starter, Basic and Growth, or $99, $249 and $499 month to month. Both save about 20% on yearly billing.

What does each cost over 12 months?
Short answer: For a five-person sales team, Copy.ai Chat costs $288 a year against $1,200 for five ChatGPT Plus seats. For a solo blogger who wants AI visibility, Writesonic Starter costs $948 a year, while a writer-first tool with basic AI tracking costs $468. It only makes sense when visibility tracking is the main job.
I matched each reader type to the cheapest plan that covers what they need, then multiplied the yearly price by 12. ChatGPT Plus is billed monthly only, so I used $20 ร 12.
The takeaway: Copy.ai Chat is the cheapest shared AI seat on this page, and the GEO platform is a visibility budget, not a writing budget. Paying for other AI tools already? My free AI subscription cost calculator adds either one to your stack and shows the yearly total.
What does Writesonic's AI visibility scan show?
Short answer: It shows how often AI engines mention your brand for the prompts you track, which competitors they name instead, and which pages or citations are missing. I pointed it at aidigitalspace.com during the free trial. The dashboard below is what came back.
๐ธ From my own scan: the visibility dashboard for this site.
This is the part a chatbot can't replace. ChatGPT can tell you what it says about a topic today; it can't track 50 prompts every day across three AI engines and chart whether you're gaining or losing ground.
Two cautions before you pay. AI answers shift from one run to the next, as I explain in why AI answers change every time, so treat any score as a trend line. And Google's guide to its AI features says no special markup is needed: helpful, crawlable pages earn both rankings and AI mentions.
Want to check your own visibility for free first? My guide on how to appear in AI search shows a manual method, and my Writesonic review covers the rest of the scan.
Both tools up close
Each card starts with what you get before paying, because that's where every reader should start.
1. Writesonic ๐ Best for AI visibility
Tracks your brand in AI answers, then writes and audits to close the gaps
Writesonic's core is now the visibility tracker: you add the prompts your buyers ask, such as "best CRM for a bakery", and it checks ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews daily for your brand and your rivals. Ads monitoring is on every plan, and Enterprise widens tracking to eight engines, including Perplexity, Claude and Copilot.
The writing tools are still here as the fix-it half: an AI Article Writer, an SEO and content agent, site audits with automatic fixes, and brand voice styles. Starter includes 15 articles and 10 audits a month, which is enough for a small blog but not for a content team.
- Tracking and fixes in one tool
- Daily refresh on every plan
- WordPress and Search Console built in
- Pricey if you only want to write
- Full Action Center is Enterprise only
- One market per self-serve plan
2. Copy.ai ๐ฃ Best for sales teams
Shared AI chat, brand voice and GTM workflows, now part of Fullcast
Copy.ai's affordable plan is now Chat: unlimited words, unlimited chat projects and five seats, with a choice of OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models. Add Brand Voice and Infobase, its store of product facts and past campaigns, and a small team gets on-brand cold emails, LinkedIn posts and ad variations from one shared login.
The headline feature, Workflows, chains research, writing and CRM steps into one automated run. That's where Fullcast is taking the product, and it's priced for companies: credits start on the $1,000 Growth plan. There's no SEO scoring and no AI visibility tracking on any tier.
- Cheapest shared AI seats here
- Several AI models in one tab
- Strong brand voice for short copy
- No mid tier between $24 and $1,000
- Roadmap now set by a RevOps owner
- No SEO or AI visibility tools
What should a blogger use instead?
Short answer: If you came here for the old Writesonic job, writing SEO blog posts, Frase Starter does it for $39 a month billed yearly and adds basic AI visibility. For polishing short copy, QuillBot Premium costs $8.33 a month billed yearly. For general drafting, ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro at $20 a month covers most writers.
I compare Frase with the best-known SEO editor in SurferSEO vs Frase, and Frase is the one tool on this page I've used myself. Whichever writer you pick, keep a human edit pass: when every brand feeds the same prompts to the same models, the internet starts to sound the same.

Each result links to the matching card above, with what it costs and what you get before paying.
Which should you choose?
Short answer: Choose Writesonic when AI search visibility is the goal and you can spend $79 a month or more. Choose Copy.ai Chat when up to five people need shared AI writing for sales and marketing at $24 a month. If you write blog posts on your own, skip both: Frase or a $20 chatbot does that job for less.
Should you pay for both?
Only if a marketing team has two separate jobs. Copy.ai Chat plus Writesonic Starter costs $1,236 a year and barely overlaps: one writes outreach, the other tracks AI answers. A solo creator rarely needs either, let alone both.

Get Made to Stick โFrequently Asked Questions โ Copy.ai vs Writesonic
Is Copy.ai still free?
+Partly. The free plan gives you 2,000 chat words a month, one brand voice and 200 workflow credits that don't renew. Unlimited words now need the Chat plan, which costs $29 a month or $24 billed yearly, and covers five seats.
Is Writesonic free?
+No. There's a free trial with no credit card, but no ongoing free plan. After the trial, Starter costs $79 a month billed yearly or $99 month to month.
Which is better for SEO blog posts, Copy.ai or Writesonic?
+Writesonic, because its plans include 15 to 50 AI articles a month plus site audits. But for a solo blogger it's an expensive way to write: Frase Starter covers SEO drafting and basic AI visibility for $39 a month billed yearly.
Who owns Copy.ai now?
+Fullcast, a revenue-operations software company based in Salt Lake City. It announced the completed acquisition on October 15, 2025 and is integrating Copy.ai into a sales product called Fullcast Propel.
What is Writesonic now?
+An AI search visibility platform. It tracks how ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews mention your brand, then offers AI articles, site audits and agents to close the gaps. Writing is now one part of that bundle, not the product itself.
Is Copy.ai worth it for a solo writer?
+Rarely. The Chat plan's value is five shared seats, and its workflows start on the $1,000 Growth plan. On your own, a single ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro subscription at $20 a month gives you similar drafting with more features.
What is a cheaper alternative to Copy.ai and Writesonic?
+It depends on the job. QuillBot Premium costs $8.33 a month billed yearly for rewriting and grammar. Frase Starter costs $39 for SEO posts with AI tracking. ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro cost $20 for general drafting.
Can Writesonic tell me if ChatGPT mentions my site?
+Yes. Starter tracks 50 prompts a day across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, and shows which competitors appear instead of you. Enterprise adds Perplexity, Claude, Grok, Copilot and Google AI Mode.
I write every guide on this site myself and rewrite it when a product changes, as both of these did. Here I've run one tool's visibility scan on my own site and haven't paid for either tool, so the comparison leans on both pricing pages, checked on the date above.
