An AI website builder can draft a full site from one sentence, but the price on the sign-up page is rarely what you pay. Hostinger advertises $2.99 a month and renews at $10.99. Wix shows its yearly rate and reveals the monthly one at checkout. Squarespace raised its plans this summer, and Wix retired its original ADI builder entirely.
So I ranked nine AI website builders by what they cost over 24 months, the realistic life of a first small-business site, and by who each one fits. I build and run this blog on WordPress with Elementor myself, so the WordPress parts come from my own setup; the rest is research on each vendor's own plan pages.
Short answer
Pick Wix if you are a beginner who wants the most help after launch. Pick 10Web if you want a WordPress site you own, from $10 a month. Pick Durable for a local service business that needs a site today. Pick Shopify to sell products. Building an app, not a site? Look at Emergent or Lovable.

🔍 How I researched this AI website builder guide
I checked each plan on the vendor's pricing page or, where a page hides prices behind sign-up, on two or more recent price trackers that agree. Every total in this post uses annual billing on the cheapest plan that allows a custom domain, so the numbers compare like for like.
Hands-on: I run AIDigitalSpace on WordPress with Elementor, the same editor 10Web generates sites into. I haven't paid for Wix, Squarespace, Durable, Hostinger, Framer, GoDaddy, Shopify or Emergent, so those cards are research, not testing. The 2-year math is my own.
Some links are affiliate links (10Web, Durable, Shopify, Emergent): if you buy through them I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Wix, Squarespace, Hostinger, Framer, GoDaddy and Lovable links aren't affiliate links. Details

Every AI website builder price here is a US list price before tax, checked October 19. EU and UK buyers pay in local currency, and the totals usually come out a little higher. Squarespace's numbers reflect the July rise that took Basic from $16 to $19 a month on yearly billing.

What does an AI website builder really cost over 2 years?
Three pricing tricks make an AI website builder look cheaper than it is. The first is prepay pricing: Hostinger's $2.99 needs 48 months paid upfront, which is $143.52 on day one. The second is yearly-only rates: Wix's pricing page shows only the yearly price, and the monthly figure appears at checkout.
The third is credit metering. GoDaddy Airo, Framer, Emergent and Lovable bundle a monthly pool of AI credits. Building the first draft barely dents it; dozens of "make the hero bigger" edits can. If you plan to edit by chat every day, budget for a top-up or the next tier of your AI website builder.

The 9 best AI website builders, ranked
I ranked each AI website builder by fit for a first-time US small business, then by two-year cost. Each card shows what you get before paying, what holds it back, and whether the link pays me. The ranking ignores commissions: my top pick isn't an affiliate.

9. Emergent Best AI app builder
When you need an app, not a brochure site

- Stripe, login and hosting wired in
⚠️ Cons
- Credits burn fast when you debug
- Pro jumps to $200 a month

AI website builder or AI app builder: which do you need?
| AI website builder | AI app builder | |
|---|---|---|
| Examples | Wix, Squarespace, Durable, 10Web | Emergent, Lovable, GoDaddy Airo AI Builder |
| Output | Pages in a visual editor | Code you can export |
| Pricing meter | Flat plan fee | Monthly AI credits |
| Best for | Brochure sites, blogs, stores | Portals, tools, MVPs |
| Skill needed | None | None to start; debugging helps |
Lovable is the other big name here: a free plan with 5 daily credits (capped at 30 a month) and Pro from $25 a month for 100 credits. Like Emergent, it shines for an MVP and gets expensive when you iterate all day. For a five-page business site, a regular AI website builder is cheaper.
💡 If you write code already, compare these with the assistants in my GitHub Copilot vs Claude Code vs Cursor test.
How do you choose an AI website builder? 4 questions

1. Will you sell online in the next year?
Yes → Shopify, or Wix Core. Services with bookings and invoices → Durable. Pages only → any builder here.
2. Do you want to own the site?
Yes → 10Web or another WordPress host. Hosted builders like Wix, Squarespace and Durable don't let you export the site.
3. Who will edit it after launch?
You, rarely → Durable or Wix. A designer → Framer. A growing team → check per-editor pricing first.
4. Can you prepay?
Yes, for years → Hostinger's 48-month term is the cheapest total. No → compare yearly rates in the table above.
Then run the free plan or trial of your top two for one evening. Use the same business description in both, and judge the second edit, not the first draft: every AI website builder makes a good first impression.
What running my own WordPress site taught me about owning vs renting
This blog runs on WordPress with Elementor, so I live with the "own it" trade-off every week. Owning means I chose my host, my cache, my CDN and my image storage, and I can move all of it tomorrow. It also means I fix what breaks.

The clearest example: speed. Out of the box my site scored 29 on desktop PageSpeed. After a round of caching, CDN and script fixes it sits in the mid-80s. A hosted AI website builder like Wix or Squarespace handles that layer for you, and you never see a 29. You also never get to fix it yourself.
My rule: if the site is a calling card, rent it from a hosted AI website builder and spend the time on your business. If the site is the business, like a blog, a content site or a store you plan to grow for years, own it. 10Web is the shortcut to owning without starting from a blank WordPress install.
Are sites from an AI website builder good for SEO and AI search?
Google measures speed and stability with Core Web Vitals, and a hosted AI website builder keeps those in a decent range by default. AI search is the newer front: ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity cite pages that answer a question clearly. My guide to getting your website to appear in AI search covers the eight steps for a small business.

5 mistakes that make an AI website builder cost more
Most of the money people lose on an AI website builder comes from five avoidable choices, and none of them is about design.
1️⃣ Buying on the intro price
Check the renewal rate before you pay. Hostinger's jumps from $2.99 to $10.99 a month.
2️⃣ Letting the builder own your domain
Register the domain in your own account, so you can switch builders without losing it.
3️⃣ Publishing the AI copy as-is
Generic text won't rank or convert. Rewrite headlines and add real prices, photos and reviews.
4️⃣ Picking the wrong plan to sell
Wix Light and Squarespace Basic look cheap until you need payments or pay the 2% store fee.
5️⃣ Ignoring credit limits
On credit-based builders, budget for top-ups if you plan to edit by chat every day.
Need a logo before launch? My AI logo makers guide covers free and paid options. Running ads to a single page instead? A landing page builder like the one in my Unbounce Smart Builder review may fit better than a full site.
An AI website builder can lay out your homepage in a minute, but it can't tell visitors why you're the right choice. Miller's seven-part framework is the fastest way I know to rewrite AI copy into a clear offer.
Get the book →My verdict: the best AI website builder is the one you'll still afford in year two
Every AI website builder on this list produces a decent first draft in minutes, so the draft isn't the decision. The renewal price, the plan you need to sell, and whether you can leave are.
Choose Wix to start free with the most help. Choose 10Web to own a WordPress site for $240 over two years. Choose Durable if you run a local service business and need the CRM too, and Shopify if the site exists to sell. Choose Hostinger only if you can prepay four years. Then rewrite the AI copy before you publish.

Open the calculator ↑AI website builder FAQ
What is the best AI website builder?
+For most beginners, Wix: it has a free plan, a chat-based AI builder and room to grow into bookings or a store. 10Web is the best value if you want to own a WordPress site, Durable is fastest for service businesses, and Shopify is best for selling products.
Is there a free AI website builder?
+Yes. Wix, Durable, Framer and GoDaddy Airo let you build and publish on their own subdomain for free, with branding or ads. A custom domain needs a paid plan on all of them. Squarespace, 10Web and Shopify offer trials instead of free plans.
How much does an AI website builder cost?
+Entry plans with a custom domain run from about $10 to $29 a month on yearly billing. Over two years that is roughly $240 (10Web, Framer, GoDaddy Airo) to $696 (Shopify), with Hostinger at $143.52 if you prepay four years.
What happened to Wix ADI?
+Wix retired ADI and replaced it with its AI website builder, which builds and edits your site through a conversation. Existing ADI sites moved into the regular Wix Editor.
Can I move my site off an AI website builder later?
+Only some. 10Web builds standard WordPress, which you can move to any WordPress host, and app builders like Emergent export code. Wix, Squarespace and Durable don't export the site, so you would rebuild elsewhere. Keep your domain in your own account either way.
Are AI-built websites good for SEO?
+The technical side is fine on every major builder: mobile layouts, SSL, sitemaps and editable titles. Rankings depend on content, so rewrite the AI draft with your own services, location, prices and photos before you publish.
What is the difference between an AI website builder and an AI app builder?
+An AI website builder makes pages in a visual editor for a flat fee. An AI app builder like Emergent or Lovable writes code for software with logins and databases, and charges by AI credits. Most small businesses need the website builder.
Do I need coding skills to use an AI website builder?
+No. You describe your business and edit the draft by dragging sections or chatting with the AI. Coding only helps with the app builders when you need to debug, or on WordPress if you want custom features.
