Mirko
Founder & AI Tech Writer
Upmetrics is an AI business plan builder: it drafts the written plan, builds the financial forecast and turns both into a pitch deck. Many reviews, including the old version of this one, still quote a 7-day free trial and a $9 starter plan. Neither matches the vendor's own pages today, so I rebuilt this review from its pricing and refund pages, and worked out what one finished plan costs you.
โก Short answer: Upmetrics is worth it if you need a lender- or investor-ready plan with real financial statements, not only nice paragraphs. Premium costs $19 a month, or $14 a month billed yearly. There is no free trial, only a 15-day money-back guarantee on your first purchase, so pay monthly unless you know you'll use it all year.
๐ What changed in this update (October 11, 2026)
- Corrected the plans and prices: no 7-day free trial and no $9 tier; a 15-day money-back guarantee instead.
- Removed customer quotes and statistics I couldn't trace to a source, plus the Bizplan comparison.
- Added my own test of the free AI generator, with the prompt and screenshots.
- Added a plan-cost calculator and a section on ChatGPT and Claude.
- Rewritten by Mirko in research voice; the earlier version claimed hands-on plans I can't confirm.

What is Upmetrics AI?
Short answer: Upmetrics is browser-based business planning software. An AI assistant drafts each section of your plan from your answers, a forecasting module builds linked profit and loss, cash flow and balance sheet statements, and a deck builder turns the plan into an investor pitch. It also ships with 400+ sample plans to start from.
Think of it as three tools sharing one set of numbers. When you change a price or a hiring date in the forecast, the financial tables, the charts in the plan and the deck all update together. That link is the thing a chat window can't give you, and it's what you're paying for.
- AI plan writer: drafts the executive summary, market analysis, competition and operations sections; you edit each one.
- Financial forecasting: revenue, costs, staff and funding inputs feed forecasts of up to 7 years on Premium and 10 on Professional.
- Pitch deck builder: pulls key slides from your plan, included in the plan price.
- Integrations: QuickBooks Online and Xero, so you can compare actual results with the plan once you're trading.

Key idea: Upmetrics is a forecasting tool with a writer attached, not a writer with a spreadsheet attached. Judge it on the numbers it produces.
7 findings from my Upmetrics research
Short answer: The seven things most reviews get wrong or skip: there is no free trial, the cheap starter tier is no longer the entry plan, a free AI generator exists, the deck and forecasts are included, Professional is for consultants, white label is a costly add-on, and the AI draft still needs your own numbers.
Upmetrics pricing: what each plan includes
Short answer: Upmetrics has two plans. Premium is $19 a month, or $14 a month billed yearly ($168), for one business. Professional is $49 a month, or $37 billed yearly, with three workspaces and 10-year forecasts. Extra workspaces, team members and white label are add-ons, and every first purchase has a 15-day money-back guarantee.
| Plan | Monthly | Billed yearly | Workspaces | Forecast | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Premium | $19 | $14/mo ($168) | 1 | Up to 7 years | Founders, one business |
| Professional | $49 | $37/mo ($444) | 3 | Up to 10 years | Consultants, several clients |
| Extra workspace | $7 | $5/mo | +1 | โ | A second business |
| Extra team member | $5 | $3/mo | โ | โ | Bigger teams |
| White label | $249 | $185/mo | โ | โ | Agencies |
Both plans include the AI writing assistant, AI industry research, the pitch deck builder, version history and exports to PDF, Word, PowerPoint and Excel. The headline prices come from Upmetrics' pricing page and the founder's own LivePlan comparison; the yearly add-on prices come from a software directory listing, because the pricing page loads them in a selector I couldn't read directly.
The refund terms deserve a careful read. Per the money-back policy, you have 15 days from your first payment to contact support, and renewals are never refunded. Students and nonprofits get 30% off any plan, according to the company.
Prices are in USD. Buyers in the EU or UK may see VAT added at checkout, so compare the final total. The app itself runs in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch.
What will one business plan cost you on Upmetrics?
Short answer: For one plan you finish in two or three months, Upmetrics Premium costs $38 to $57 paid monthly. The yearly plan only wins from the ninth month on, because you pay $168 upfront. LivePlan Standard costs about the same per month, so the real differences are the refund window and the features.
This is my own calculation from the published prices, and the part most reviews skip. A business plan is often a two-month project, not a yearly habit. Paying annually to save $5 a month only pays off if you'll keep using the forecast to track the business after launch.
| You need it forโฆ | Premium monthly | Premium yearly | LivePlan Standard monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 month | $19 | $168 | $20 |
| 3 months | $57 | $168 | $60 |
| 6 months | $114 | $168 | $120 |
| 12 months | $228 | $168 | $240 ($180 yearly) |

Upmetrics vs ChatGPT or Claude: do you need a dedicated tool?
Short answer: A general chatbot writes the narrative sections well, often for free. Where Upmetrics earns its fee is the forecast: three linked financial statements that stay consistent as you change assumptions, formatted the way lenders expect, plus a deck built from the same numbers. If you only need words, skip it.
| Job | ChatGPT or Claude | Upmetrics |
|---|---|---|
| Executive summary, market, competition text | โ Strong | โ Guided by plan sections |
| Linked P&L, cash flow and balance sheet | โ ๏ธ Manual, easy to break | โ Built in, up to 7โ10 years |
| Change one assumption, update everything | โ Re-prompt and recheck | โ Automatic |
| Pitch deck from the same numbers | โ ๏ธ Separate tool | โ Included |
| Track actuals after launch | โ | โ QuickBooks Online, Xero |
| Cost | Free tier, or about $20 a month | $19 a month |
A middle path works for many founders: write the narrative with the chatbot you already pay for, then use the paid tool for one or two months to build the forecast and export it. If you go the DIY route, my guides to using Claude AI every day and daily ChatGPT prompts cover the drafting workflows.
Key idea: Pay for Upmetrics when the numbers have to hold up in front of a lender or investor. For words alone, a chatbot is enough.
How to build a business plan in Upmetrics
Short answer: Test your idea in the free generator, then pay for one month of Premium, pick a sample plan close to your business, fill in the forecast first, let the AI draft the written sections around those numbers, and export the plan and deck. Cancel before renewal if you don't need tracking.
- Test the free generator. Describe the business in under 500 characters: who buys, what you sell, how you charge, where. The draft shows whether the AI understands your model before you pay.
- Start Premium monthly. Your 15-day refund clock starts with that first payment, so have your numbers ready the same week.
- Pick a sample plan. Choose the closest of the 400+ samples for structure, not for its facts or figures.
- Build the forecast first. Enter prices, expected sales, staff, rent and loan amounts. The statements and charts fill in from these.
- Draft and edit the text. Let the AI write each section, then replace general claims with your own research and local data.
- Export and share. Download the plan as PDF or Word and the deck as PowerPoint, then cancel or keep tracking actuals.

The SBA's business plan guide notes that lenders and investors usually ask for the traditional format with financial projections. That's the format this tool produces. If you only need a one-page lean plan for yourself, the paid tool is more than you need.
My Upmetrics free generator test
Short answer: I gave the free generator a 317-character idea for a home-based sourdough micro-bakery and saved what came back. It costs nothing and takes a few minutes, so it is the cheapest way to see whether the AI understands your business model before you pay for a plan.
This is the exact prompt I used. It packs in the four things a lender asks about first: who buys, what it costs them, how much you sell, and what the money is for. Copy it, swap in your own business, and stay under the 500-character limit.
Home-based sourdough micro-bakery selling bread and pastries by online pre-order, with weekly pickup and local delivery. Customers: families and cafes within 10 km. Prices $6-$12 per item, about 150 items a week to start. Costs: flour, energy, packaging, one part-time helper. Goal: a small bank loan for a deck oven.

Key idea: Give the free generator real prices and volumes, not just a product description. Specific inputs are the only way to judge whether the paid forecast will be worth building.
What do users praise and complain about in Upmetrics?
Short answer: Upmetrics is rated 4.9 out of 5 from 115 reviews on Capterra UK when I checked. Reviewers mostly praise how fast it gets them from a blank page to a structured plan. The recurring criticism is that the output is a starting point rather than a finished plan, and that some features depend on the plan you buy.
One three-star reviewer on Capterra UK called it a good starting point but not enough on its own for a detailed, high-quality plan, and warned buyers to compare plan features carefully before paying. That matches what the product is: structure and arithmetic, with the thinking left to you.
- Fast start from samples and AI drafts
- Financial statements without spreadsheets
- Deck and plan in one place
- AI text reads generic until edited
- Feature differences between plans
- No free trial to test first
Review scores on vendor-listed sites skew high across this category, so treat them as a sign of satisfaction, not proof of plan quality. Read the three-star reviews; they tell you more.
Who should use Upmetrics?
Short answer: Choose Upmetrics if you're applying for a bank or SBA loan, pitching investors, or writing plans for clients and need forecasts that hold together. Skip it if you only need a one-page plan for yourself, marketing copy, or a model so complex that you'd rebuild it in Excel anyway.
| You areโฆ | Upmetrics fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Small business owner applying for a loan | โ Strong | Traditional plan with projections, the format lenders ask for |
| Startup founder raising a first round | โ Strong | Forecast and deck share one set of numbers |
| Consultant or accountant with several clients | โ Good on Professional | Three workspaces, extra ones at $7 each |
| Student or nonprofit | โ Good | 30% discount on any plan |
| Side hustler testing an idea | โ ๏ธ Try the free generator first | A lean plan or a chatbot draft may be enough |
| Finance team with multi-entity models | โ Poor fit | You'll outgrow guided forecasts quickly |
Once the plan is written, the day-to-day money side is a separate job. My roundups of AI tools for small business finance and the best AI tools for small business owners pick up from there.
Best Upmetrics alternatives
Short answer: LivePlan is the closest Upmetrics alternative, at $20 a month or $15 billed yearly, with a longer 35-day money-back guarantee and live onboarding. If your budget is zero, the SBA's free sample plans plus a chatbot for drafting cover a simple plan, but you build the financials yourself.
| Option | Monthly | Billed yearly | Refund | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Upmetrics Premium | $19 | $14/mo | 15 days | AI drafting + 7-year forecast |
| LivePlan Standard | $20 | $15/mo | 35 days | Guided plans, live onboarding |
| LivePlan Premium | $40 | $30/mo | 35 days | Deeper research and scenarios |
| SBA samples + chatbot | $0โ$20 | โ | โ | Simple plans, tight budgets |
1. LivePlan ๐ฆ Closest rival
Step-by-step business plans with lender-ready statements
LivePlan is the established name in this category, and its Standard plan now lists AI writing help, market research, what-if scenarios, budget-vs-actual dashboards and QuickBooks Online and Xero connections. It also includes a live onboarding session and human chat support.
Its 35-day money-back guarantee gives you more than twice the 15-day window to decide. For hand-holding, the optional LivePlan Expert add-on costs $30 a month for one-on-one video help.
- Longest refund window here
- 550+ sample plans
- Live onboarding included
- Pitch output is a one-page summary
- No white-label option
- Deeper research costs $40 a month
2. SBA samples + ChatGPT or Claude ๐ Free route
Government sample plans for structure, a chatbot for drafting
The SBA publishes two traditional sample plans and one lean one, and points to free business counseling through its partner network. Use a sample for structure, then draft each section with the chatbot you already use, feeding it your own facts.
The weak spot is the money. You'll build the forecast in a spreadsheet; my Copilot Excel expense tracker tutorial shows how to get AI help inside Excel for that part.
- Free or near-free
- Structure from an official source
- No subscription to cancel
- No linked financial statements
- More manual formatting
- Chatbots can invent market figures
Is Upmetrics worth it?
Short answer: Yes, for one clear job: producing a traditional business plan with a linked, multi-year forecast and a matching deck, for about the price of one month of a chatbot. Pay monthly, finish the plan inside your first 15 days if you can, and only switch to yearly billing if you'll track results after launch.
My score covers what I could check: prices, features and terms. It doesn't grade the AI's writing quality, because I haven't run a full plan through the paid tool. The two lower scores are about how you buy it, not what it does: older $7 and $9 prices still circulate, and a 15-day refund is shorter than LivePlan's 35.
Before you pay for anything, run your idea through the free generator on Upmetrics' site. If the draft gets your business model right, the paid plan will save you time; if it doesn't, you've lost nothing. To put a number on that time, use my AI automation ROI calculator.

Why most small businesses stall: the owner works in the business instead of on it. It's the thinking a business plan forces on you, and the part no AI writer can do for you, from defining roles to building systems that run without you.

Get The E-Myth Revisited โFrequently Asked Questions
Does Upmetrics have a free trial?
+No. There's no free trial of the full tool. You pay first and can ask for a full refund within 15 days of your first purchase. To test it without paying, use its free AI business plan generator, which turns a short description of your idea into a draft plan.
How much does Upmetrics cost?
+Premium is $19 a month, or $14 a month billed yearly, for one business with 7-year forecasts. Professional is $49 a month, or $37 billed yearly, with three workspaces and 10-year forecasts. Add-ons include extra workspaces at $7 a month and white label at $249 a month. Students and nonprofits get 30% off.
Is Upmetrics better than LivePlan?
+Neither wins outright. Upmetrics costs a dollar less a month and includes a full pitch deck and 7-year forecasts on its entry plan. LivePlan gives you a 35-day money-back guarantee, a live onboarding session and human chat support. Pick Upmetrics for value, LivePlan for guidance and a longer refund window.
Can Upmetrics write my whole business plan?
+It can draft every section and build the financial statements, but what comes out is a first draft. You still need your real prices, costs and local market research, and you should rewrite general claims. Plan on editing; reviewers consistently describe the output as a strong starting point rather than a finished plan.
Does Upmetrics work for SBA loans?
+Yes. The SBA says lenders usually ask for a traditional plan with financial projections, and that is the format it produces. No software gets a loan approved on its own, though: the lender looks at whether your numbers are realistic, so use conservative assumptions you can explain.
Can I cancel Upmetrics and get a refund?
+You can cancel anytime, and you keep access until the paid period ends. A refund is only available on your first purchase, and you must contact support within 15 days of that payment. Renewals aren't refunded, so set a reminder before a yearly plan renews.
I write every guide on this site myself. For this review I worked from both vendors' own pricing and policy pages, and I say where a number is my calculation rather than theirs. Where I haven't paid for a tool, I say so.
